Man arrested for posting fake news of Amit Shah's demise

Police have arrested a person in Indirapuram area of ​​Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh for posting fake news on social media about the ‘death’ of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Officials said on Wednesday that the accused has been identified as Rohit (34), a resident of Moradabad district. Officials said the accused person was arrested after a complaint was lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary Anil Sharma.

According to Assistant Police Commissioner (Indirapuram) Swatantra Kumar Singh, an FIR has been registered under various sections of the Indian Justice Code. He said that charges have also been filed under the provisions of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act.

Singh said, ‘Indirapuram police took immediate action and with the help of electronic surveillance arrested the accused near Hindon River Barrage in Vasundhara Colony.’ He said that during interrogation, Rohit admitted that he had posted fake news to increase followers of his Facebook page. Singh said that legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
