Vriksha Mata Tulsi Gowda, who received the Padmashree award barefoot and in tribal attire in front of many dignitaries including the President and the Prime Minister, is no more with us. Tulsi Gowda, 86, a member of the Halkki community, was suffering from age-related ailments and died on Monday at her home village Hannali in Ankol taluk of Uttara Kannada district.
Tulsi Gowda was known as the “Tree Mother” for her amazing love and devotion towards trees. He worked for environmental protection and care of trees and plants throughout his life. In view of his extraordinary hard work and dedication, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021. This prestigious award was given to him in recognition of his remarkable role in the conservation of herbs and plants before the President and the Prime Minister.
