Nikhil Kumaraswamy's fan attempts suicide after JDS leader's defeat
Recently, a supporter of JDS candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy in Channapatna by-election attempted suicide in Srirampura village near Cuddalore, Channapatna, following Kumaraswamy’s defeat. The man, Manjunath, also known as Abhi, consumed poison in an apparent emotional reaction to the defeat. Before this act, Manjunath left a note which read, “I am a fan of Nikhil. I am responsible for his own death. Jai JDS.”
Manjunath was taken to a hospital in Mandya, where he was said to be out of danger. Following the incident, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, visited Manjunath’s house in Cuddalore to extend support. Expressing his shock and grief, Nikhil assured Manjunath of his help and urged him to remain hopeful. Nikhil said “I’m here for you, that’s why I came. I was upset when I found out about this. Please don’t lose heart. I’ll try to help you in the future and do whatever I can to help.
During his visit, Nikhil appealed to Manjunath, who has young children, to reconsider such extreme actions. He said, “Please, look at the faces of your growing children. I too have a three-year-old son. Let us take care of their future.” Nikhil also promised to help Manjunath get employment and said, “I will arrange some employment opportunities for you.”

In his statement to reporters, Nikhil emphasized that he was more hurt by Manjunath’s suicide attempt than his election defeat. he said At 7.30 in the morning, we got a message that Manjunath had consumed poison. Our workers and leaders have built this party with passion, but if the praise crosses the limit, it causes pain to the families.
