Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu launched a seaplane demonstration flight expedition from Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada to Srisailam in Nandyal district. The initiative aims to position Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of India’s water-based aviation sector. The Chief Minister will board the flight to Srisailam along with Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu and other dignitaries. On starting the trial run of seaplane service, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu said that it is a boom for tourism. The future is only for tourism. It will also create employment, wealth and new experiences for the people. So I don’t want to focus only on seaplanes, we are giving industrial status to tourism.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also came forward to promote seaplane operations in the southern state, which do not require the expensive infrastructure required for a regular airport. With the seaplane services, the state government aims to put Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of India’s water-based aviation sector. The Chief Minister said that new ideas will eradicate poverty and generate income which can be used to finance welfare activities.
Earlier, Ram Mohan Naidu said a new chapter was being opened in Andhra Pradesh, adding that seaplane operations would change the future not only of the state but also of India. Although seaplane operations had been tried earlier too, the Aviation Minister said they did not take off due to Covid and other reasons and highlighted that CM Naidu had suggested the potential of seaplanes. According to the Union Minister, seaplane services are also important for PM Modi and reminded that these were first tried in Gujarat.
