The body of a youth was found floating in an open drain on Tuesday morning in Gajapati Nagar of Kumbharpada police station area of Puri district of Odisha, which created a sensation in the area. The deceased has been identified as Pradipta Chaudhary. Local people saw the body floating in the drain early in the morning and immediately informed the police. After the dead body was found, there was deep anger among the local people. They allege that this accident is the result of the negligence of the administration, because the condition of open drains was already inviting danger.
Accident or murder? investigation started
Police reached the spot, took out the body and started investigating the case. At present it is not clear what caused the death of Pradipta Chaudhary. Police are trying to find out whether this incident was an accident or murder. During the investigation, questions are being raised whether he accidentally fell into the drain or was thrown by someone. The body has been sent to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem, so that the cause of death can be ascertained.
Collector’s instructions after the incident
Puri Collector termed this incident as unfortunate. Upon receiving the information, immediate action was taken. This drain belongs to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and encroachment has been found near it. The Collector said, “We have directed the municipality to identify all the open drains in the city and cover them as soon as possible. Some municipal drains will also be included in the process. We will take up this issue as our responsibility.” “We are looking into it and will resolve it on priority.”
After the incident, local people have demanded immediate action from the administration. He says that there is a need to immediately cover open drains in the entire city, so that such incidents can be avoided in future. Local residents say that if the administration had paid attention to this problem in advance, this incident probably could have been avoided. Police and administration have intensified the investigation and all efforts are being made to trace the culprits in the case.
