Police lathicharge on students protesting in Punjab University

When the students reached the center on the university campus, the police used force to disperse them. The march was taken out on a day when a conference was being organized in the university campus which was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Police lathi-charged a group of students who were marching in the Panjab University campus on Wednesday to protest against the delay in ‘Senate’ elections. This demonstration was being organized under the banner of ‘Punjab University Bachao Morcha’.

When the protesters reached the student center on the university campus, police used force to disperse them, officials said. The march was taken out on a day when a conference was being organized in the university campus which was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Students are protesting against the delay in ‘Senate’ elections. Senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa condemned the lathicharge on students. In a post on social media platform Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was discussing Vision 2047 for Punjab. Mann on Tuesday sought the intervention of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to conduct the Senate elections immediately. The ‘Senate’ is the supreme governing body of the university.
