Rahul Gandhi praised Telangana government's initiative to make law for temporary workers
Hyderabad. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi praised the Telangana government’s move to enact a law for the welfare of temporary workers and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to organize a state-wide public consultation for the draft law. In a letter to Reddy, Gandhi said he was impressed by the vibrant public consultation process for the socio-economic, educational, employment, political and caste surveys (ongoing in the state) during his recent visit to Hyderabad.
“I request you to organize a similar state-wide public consultation on the draft law for gig workers,” Gandhi said. Hearing all parties will ensure strong, effective and meaningful legislation. This process can also help strengthen future regulations for this sector. Gig workers are workers who work without special facilities in online platforms, manufacturing, petrol pumps, service sectors etc. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said he would be happy to be a part of the consultation process.
Gandhi underlined that Congress stands for the welfare of workers, especially contract workers, and expressed in the party’s manifesto a commitment to enact legislation to enhance social security of temporary workers. He said that Congress-ruled governments have taken many steps in this direction and the Congress government in Rajasthan became the first government to make a law for the welfare of temporary workers.
Sharing a letter written by Rahul Gandhi on November 11 on social media platform ‘X’, Reddy assured him that in line with his ‘vision and promise’, the state’s policy for temporary workers will be comprehensive, inclusive and fair. The Chief Minister said, “Dear Rahul Gandhi ji, all our work is inspired by your vision, thoughts and work. It gives us more energy that Telangana caste based survey has made you feel proud.
