The RSS chief hit out at the Trinamool Congress government led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying attempts were made to hide the incident and protect the culprits.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday condemned “efforts to cover up” the incident of alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Bhagwat, while addressing RSS workers at the annual Vijaya Dashami festival in Nagpur, said such incidents are the result of cultural degradation and corruption on a large scale in the society. Citing the old traditions of India, he said, “When Draupadi’s rag was touched, Mahabharata happened and when Sita was abducted, Ramayana happened.”

Bhagwat said, “What happened at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata is a shameful incident and an insult to all of us.” Taking a dig at the Trinamool Congress government led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the RSS chief said. An attempt was made to hide this incident and protect the criminals. “The nexus of crime, politics and toxic culture is ruining us,” Bhagwat said.
