RG Kar rape-murder case: Hearing begins in Kolkata court

Kolkata Police had arrested Roy a day after the body of the female doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered, was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital.

The hearing in the case of alleged rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital began on Monday with the main accused Sanjay Roy being produced in a Kolkata court.

The case is being heard in-camera in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das. Roy was brought to the court in the afternoon. A case has been registered against him under sections 64 (rape), 66 (punishment for causing death or rendering a person liable to coma) and 103 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS).

Kolkata Police had arrested Roy a day after the body of the female doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered, was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital. Later, on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation of the case.
