In a shocking incident, at least one person was killed and several others injured after a clash between two groups of people during the immersion procession of Durga idol in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich on Sunday. Police have booked one person in connection with the violence and detained around 30 people. Local police said on Monday that security has been increased in the surrounding areas. Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla said that adequate police force has been deployed. According to reports, Sunday’s violence was sparked by disagreement over music being played from loudspeakers while the procession passed through the area. Ram Gopal Mishra of Rehua Mansoor village was walking in the procession when he was shot. A member of his family said he was taken to hospital where he died during treatment.

About 30 people in custody, case registered against one
Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla told reporters on Sunday night, there was tension in Maharajganj area under Mahsi tehsil. When a procession was passing through a Muslim-dominated area, a person from another community was allegedly attacked, resulting in his death. After the incident, the police have detained around 30 people. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy in all the areas affected by the unrest. He said that adequate police force has been deployed in the area, and by looking at the CCTV footage of the violence-hit areas, unruly elements are being identified, and strict action will be taken against them.

A case was registered against a person named Salman
Shukla said, a case has been registered against a person named Salman in connection with the incident. It is said that the alleged firing took place from his shop. The police have detained the suspicious people. A 22-year-old youth died after being shot during a communal clash over playing music during a procession in a village on Sunday, according to police. The Chief Minister directed the administration to make adequate arrangements and get the idol immersed on time and to communicate with religious organizations.
