Student preparing for JEE exam commits suicide in Kota

An 18-year-old student preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of his hostel in Rajasthan’s Kota district. Police gave this information on Saturday.

Police said that no suicide note has been recovered from the student’s room and the reason for the suicide is not yet known. According to the police, Vivek Kumar, a resident of Annupur in Madhya Pradesh, was preparing for the JEE exam since April in a coaching institute in Kota. He told that he lived in a hostel room in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar of Jawahar Nagar area.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogesh Sharma told PTI that the student allegedly jumped from the sixth floor of the hostel around midnight. Sharma said that Vivek was taken to the hospital where he died during treatment.

He said that a forensic team has been sent to the spot to collect evidence and find out the cause of death. Sharma said that after the arrival of the parents, post-mortem of the body will be conducted and a case will be registered on the basis of their statements. Since January this year, 16 students have committed suicide in the coaching institutes of Kota whereas 26 cases were reported last year.
