Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, alleging that the party has repeatedly insulted Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar before and after independence. Chugh alleged that Congress forced Ambedkar to resign and described his resignation as evidence of the “mindset” of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru towards Ambedkar.
He also criticized the Omar Abdullah-led government and accused it of losing the trust and support of the people by failing to fulfill its promises. “I was reading a newspaper report (about the protests), Chugh told reporters on the sidelines of an event here. The Congress Party has a long history of disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar – both during his lifetime and after his death. “This is evident from their actions before and after independence, including forcing him to resign.”
He said, “If you analyze his resignation letter, it exposes the partisan mentality of Pandit Nehru, who as Prime Minister and Congress President consistently opposed Ambedkar’s ideology.” He said, “Dr. “Congress, which constantly insulted Ambedkar during his lifetime, opposed his ideas even before and after independence.”
Chugh alleged, “If you look at his letters, you will find how Pandit Nehru had opposed reservation. The country can never forget what injustice Nehru did to Ambedkar. Nehru also awarded himself the Bharat Ratna and later Indira Gandhi did the same. However, Ambedkar was not given this honor during his rule.”
Praising his party’s decision to honor Ambedkar, Chugh said, “It was only during the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government that Ambedkar was finally awarded the Bharat Ratna – 40 years after his death. “
