Reddy said that I and my cabinet colleagues do not want to get involved in such unnecessary discussions and situations which may harm the image of the state government or me. That is why our officer Jayesh Ranjan has written a letter to Adani on behalf of the state government.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has put on hold Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani’s donation of Rs 100 crore to the Young India Skills University being set up in the state. Reddy cited growing ‘unnecessary discussions’ after the initial announcement for the decision to stop the donation. Reddy was quoted as saying that the decision was taken because Adani’s announcement gave rise to unnecessary discussions that if the donation was accepted it could favor the state government or the CM. He also clarified that the Telangana government has not accepted a single rupee into its account from any organization including the Adani Group.
Reddy said that I and my cabinet colleagues do not want to get involved in such unnecessary discussions and situations which may harm the image of the state government or me. That is why our officer Jayesh Ranjan has written a letter to Adani on behalf of the state government. He said the letter read that due to the (present) situation and controversies, the Telangana government is not ready to accept the donation of Rs 100 crore generously given by you (Adani). Reddy said the letter clearly requested the Adani Foundation not to transfer Rs 100 crore to the university.
On the subject of donations to the university, the CM expressed happiness that his government’s efforts to get income tax exemption for donations made to the university are succeeding. Adani Group has become the subject of tug of war between the central government and the opposition. Congress has been accusing the Narendra Modi-led government of favoring the Adani Group. The BJP pointed to the group’s investments in opposition-ruled states in several instances.
