There was a huge uproar in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today when BJP members opposed the passing of a resolution regarding granting special status to the erstwhile state. As soon as the House proceedings began, BJP members started creating ruckus over the resolution passed on Wednesday. When BJP MLA and opposition leader Sunil Sharma was speaking on the motion, Awami Ittehad Party leader and MLA Langet Sheikh Khurshid came in front of the podium showing a banner on which it was written that Articles 370 and 35A should be restored. BJP members expressed their displeasure on this. They also came in front of the throne and snatched the banner and tore it. Amid the uproar, Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned the proceedings of the House for 15 minutes. However, even after the House was adjourned, BJP members continued their protest. When the House proceedings began, the commotion continued and a scuffle like situation broke out between the MLAs. During this, BJP MLAs were seen raising slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Ultimately, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
Let us tell you that Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Surinder Chaudhary had presented the resolution, which said, “This Assembly reaffirms the importance of special status and constitutional guarantees that protect the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” The resolution states that the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly calls upon the Government of India to initiate negotiations with the elected representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the restoration of special status and constitutional guarantees and Calls for creating a constitutional mechanism to restore the provisions. “This House emphasizes that any process of restoration must protect national unity and the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the resolution said.

After the adjournment of the Assembly, MP Engineer Rashid’s brother and MLA Sheikh Khurshid said that we wanted to bring a resolution on Article 370, but we were not given the chance. So, what other option did we have? He said that even if they continue to attack us, we will continue to raise our voice.
On this issue, BJP says that the Congress and National Conference governments have tried and conspired to revive the agenda of terrorists and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir. But it will not be allowed to succeed.
