India has said that Indian and Chinese negotiators have reached an agreement on “patrol arrangements” along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), thereby resolving the issues that arose in these areas in 2020. An Indian government source said that troops facing each other at two points on the border in India’s Ladakh region in the western Himalayas have started retreating, indicating an end to the standoff. A senior Indian Army official said the process began on Wednesday and is expected to be completed by the end of this month. The nuclear-armed neighbors struck a deal earlier this week to step up border patrolling, paving the way for the first formal talks in five years between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia.
After this, information has been given about how this entire matter was resolved. External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Saturday credited the military and skillful diplomacy for India’s successful agreement with China to patrol the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The withdrawal of Indian and Chinese troops in Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh began on Friday and will be completed by October 29. Patrolling from both sides will start on October 30-31. During an interaction with students in Pune, the minister said that “there is still some time for normalization of relations, naturally it will take time to rebuild trust and willingness to work together.”

Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia earlier this week, Jaishankar said it was decided that the foreign ministers and national security advisors of the two countries would meet and see how forward How to grow.
“If we have reached where we are today…it is because of the determined efforts made by us to stick to our guns and keep our word. The army has to defend the country in the most unimaginable circumstances. I was present (at the LAC) and the army did its job and diplomacy did its job,” PTI quoted Jaishankar as saying.
the minister said Today we are devoting five times more resources annually than a decade ago, which is showing results and enabling the Army to deploy truly effectively. The combination of these (factors) has led us here.

‘The border situation was very disturbed since 2020’: Jaishankar
Jaishankar said the border situation has been very turbulent since 2020, which has “understandably had a negative impact on overall relations.”
“Since September 2020, India had been in talks with China on how to find a solution,” he said. Jaishankar further said, “The most important thing is to withdraw the troops because they are very close to each other and there is a possibility of something happening. Then the tension has reduced due to increase in the number of troops from both sides.” “The bigger issue after that is how do you manage the border and negotiate the border agreement. What is happening right now is related to the first part which is disengagement.”
He said India and China agreed at some places on how troops would return to their bases after 2020, but an important part was related to patrolling. Jaishankar said, “Patrolling was being stopped and we were trying to negotiate on this for the last two years. So what happened on October 21 was that in those particular areas Depsang and Demchok we agreed to That patrolling will resume as before.”
