The Chief Justice has outlined a citizen-centric agenda for judicial reforms and said it is the constitutional duty of the judiciary to ensure easy access to justice and treat citizens equally regardless of their status.

On Tuesday, the second day after taking charge, he gave a harsh reply to the lawyers. CJI Sanjeev Khanna clearly said that the demand for early hearing in any case will not be heard orally. The Chief Justice said that now there will be no oral mention. This will happen only through email or written slip/letter. Simply state the reasons for the need for an immediate hearing. CJI Khanna said that the demand for early hearing should be sent through email or written request in the registry. The new Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna said that the judiciary is an integral, yet distinct and independent part of the governance system. The Chief Justice said, the Constitution entrusts us with the responsibility of fulfilling the important function of being a constitutional guardian, protector of fundamental rights and a service provider of justice.

President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Khanna as the 51st Chief Justice at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Justice Khanna spoke of feeling extremely honored to lead the judiciary, the third pillar of democracy. In his first statement on Monday, the Chief Justice said the judiciary is an integral, yet separate and independent part of the governance system. The Constitution entrusts us with the responsibility of fulfilling the important function of being the constitutional guardian, protector of fundamental rights and service provider of justice.
