Andhra Pradesh government approved the first phase of metro rail projects for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. The estimated total cost of these projects is Rs 22,507 crore, of which Rs 11,498 crore has been allocated for Visakhapatnam and Rs 11,009 crore for Vijayawada. Phase-I in Visakhapatnam will have three corridors: Steel Plant Junction to Komadi (34.40 km), Gurudwara to Old Post Office (5.08 km), and Thatichitlapalem to China Waltair (6.75 km), spanning a total of 46.23 km with 42 stations. will be. , , The project will require 99.75 acres of land, costing Rs 882 crore.

In Phase-II, the fourth corridor from Komadi to Bhogapuram will be launched, which will extend the metro system by 76.90 km with an estimated cost of Rs 14,309 crore. The project will follow the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with 40 per cent funding from the Center and 60 per cent funding from private developers. Meanwhile, Phase-I of the Vijayawada Metro project will consist of two corridors: Gannavaram to Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) and PKBS to Pennamaluru, covering a total of 38.40 km with 34 stations. The estimated cost of the first phase is Rs 11,009 crore, of which Rs 1,152 crore has been allocated for land acquisition.

Phase-II will focus on the third corridor connecting PNBS to Reservoir Station at Amravati, which is a future development. These projects are expected to transform the transportation landscape of the region, improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. The state government has already approved the detailed project report (DPR) for both the projects, which will be submitted to the Center for further approval.
