Cold is continuously increasing in the country’s capital Delhi, but rains are still continuing in the South Indian states. Fog remains a major problem in the north-eastern states and snowfall has started in the northern-hilly states. There is a possibility of snowfall along with rain in Darjeeling and Kalimpong of West Bengal in the coming days. There is a possibility of light rain in Delhi also on Sunday. When it rains, the people of Delhi can get a lot of relief and the air here can become clean. However, due to strong winds, Delhi’s AQI has improved significantly.

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rain in the south-eastern states of the country in the coming days. Yellow alert has been issued for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. Cyclone Fangal also caused havoc in these states and now the Central Government teams are going there to assess the damage. There are chances of heavy rains in these states in the coming three to four days.

Coldest Friday night in Delhi

The coldest night so far this winter in Delhi was on Friday (6 December) and the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.1 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted light rain in the city on Sunday. According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature on Friday night was recorded three degrees below the season’s average. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 25.4 degrees Celsius. The second lowest temperatures of the season were recorded on Thursday and Friday, when the minimum temperature dropped to 8.5 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the maximum temperature is likely to be 24 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 8 degrees Celsius.

Chance of snowfall in Darjeeling

There is a possibility of light rain or snow in parts of northern districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong in West Bengal. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has expressed this possibility in its forecast till December 10. The IMD on Saturday said that dense fog may persist in parts of the sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal during late night and morning hours till December 10. In the southern part of the state, there is a possibility of light rain at one or two places over West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Purba and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia districts on December 9.

Mercury may fall in Kolkata

According to IMD, the weather is likely to remain mainly dry in other parts of West Bengal till December 10. In the last 24 hours, Darjeeling town recorded a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state, while Kalimpong recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius. Purulia, located in the western part of the state, was the second coldest place with a temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 16.5 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department estimates that the mercury may go down by one degree in the metropolis on Sunday morning.
