Traffic chaos continues on Delhi-Noida border amid security arrangements for farmers' protest
Traffic chaos continues on the Delhi-Noida border amid security arrangements for the farmers’ protest. Traffic speed remained slow on Tuesday also due to barricading as part of security arrangements on the Delhi-Noida border in view of the farmers’ march towards the national capital that started on Monday. Farmers gathered at Mahamaya flyover on Dadri-Noida Link Road and started their march around 11.30 am on Monday demanding increased compensation for their lands acquired by the government and other demands. The protest was called by Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP).

Commuters crossing the Delhi-Noida border on Monday were inconvenienced due to heavy traffic jams. On Tuesday also, due to security arrangements, vehicles moved at slow speed in some parts of Delhi and Noida. Noida’s busy Mahamaya flyover was among the areas where there was traffic jam.

According to BKP, farmers from 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Aligarh and Agra, took part in the march. Hundreds of protesters carrying banners and flags of various farmer groups crossed the initial barricades put up by the Noida Police. Some people climbed over the barricades, while others pushed them.Eventually the police stopped them near Dalit Prerna Sthal on Noida Link Road, about 1 km from Chilla Border. Chilla Border is the gateway to Delhi. Senior police officers tried to pacify the protesting farmers.
Due to farmers’ protest and police checking, passengers traveling through Chilla Border, DND Flyway, Delhi Gate and Kalindi Kunj were stuck in traffic for hours. Aparajita Singh, a resident of Greater Noida, said that the passengers are facing a lot of trouble due to the barricades installed at the Chilla border.
News agency PTI quoted Singh as saying, “It took me about an hour to pass through that stretch. Police have put up barricades on both sides of the Delhi-Noida border, causing traffic jams, especially on the road from Noida to Delhi. It is done.” Amit Thakur, another commuter from Noida, said that due to heavy traffic he left his car and took the metro to go to work.
He said, “When I checked the traffic situation before leaving for my office in Central Delhi, I saw huge crowd near Chilla border, which increased the travel time by an hour. So, I decided to take the Metro. ” A group of farmers from Punjab led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) have called for a march towards Delhi on December 6. The group has been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13.
