Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday said attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh show that the interim government of that country is in the “clutches of fundamentalists”. He asked the United Nations to intervene in this matter. Condemning the arrest of a Hindu leader in Bangladesh, he said such attacks are against humanity. The BJP, however, refrained from commenting in this regard and said it stood by the “appropriate stand” taken by the External Affairs Ministry on the issue.
Bangladesh Police on Monday arrested Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, leader of Hindu group ‘Samilit Sanatani Jot’, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area of Dhaka. The interim government of Bangladesh is led by Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus. Former Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmood has said that anti-India rhetoric and promoting fundamentalist and terrorist forces are “interrelated” strategies that have pushed Bangladesh towards “complete anarchy”. He accused the interim government of Bangladesh led by Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus of turning democracy into a “mobocracy”.
