The Central Government said that after the rejection of the application by the Supreme Court of Yemen, the President of Yemen now has to take a decision on this. In such a situation, to save her daughter, Nimisha’s mother has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. These things have come to light during the hearing in this case. Nimisha’s mother has also sought permission to travel to Yemen so that she can compensate the victim’s family through ‘blood money’ and save her daughter’s life.

Who is Nimisha Priya?

Nimisha, a resident of Kerala, is a nurse who opened her own clinic in Yemen. According to the information, he befriended a person in Yemen, whose name was Abdo Mahdi. Mahdi promised to help him open his clinic. It is also claimed that Mahdi did not keep his promise, yet Nimisha opened her own clinic in Yemen. According to the information, after this Mahdi started harassing Nimisha and started calling her his second wife. He repeatedly asked Nimisha for money. Nimisha also complained to the police regarding this matter, after which Mahdi had to stay in jail for a few days. However, when Mahdi returned from jail, he took Nimisha’s passport into his possession.

What is the whole matter?

According to the information, to get the passport back from Mahdi, Nimisha gave him an anesthetic injection. But the anesthetic injection turned into an overdose, and Mahdi died. After this, Nimisha along with her colleague Hanan cut Mahdi’s body into pieces and threw his body in a water tank. Please note that Hanan is a Yemeni citizen. In this case, Nimisha was sentenced to death in 2018, while Hanan was imprisoned for life. Nimisha also has an 8 year old son. Nimisha has been working in Sana’a, Yemen since 2018.

On Thursday, the Central Government’s lawyer told the Delhi High Court that according to the recently issued notification, the ban on Indians traveling to Yemen can be relaxed. But the reason for this should be very specific and there should also be a time restriction. Earlier, Nimisha’s mother told the court that one way to save her daughter was to talk to the family members of the deceased. For this she will have to go to Yemen and due to the ban on Indians traveling to Yemen, she is not able to do so.

What is blood money?

A system has been going on for years in Yemen and Arab countries, which is called ‘blood money’. Actually, this word refers to the money which is given to the family of the deceased, due to which the life of the accused can be saved. In a way, this is a huge amount of compensation which is given as compensation to the family members of the deceased. According to this, if the family of the deceased person wishes, they can compromise with the murderer and forgive him by taking some money. There were also reports that Mahdi’s family had asked for 5 crore Yemeni Riyals as blood money from Nimisha’s family. That means in Indian currency this amount is Rs 1.52 crore.
