Many devotees offer cash, gold, silver etc. worth crores of rupees to Lord Venkateshwara. Every year the temple earns thousands of crores from donations. But do you know that there is a reason for offering donations to God on such a large scale. Let’s know about it.
What is the religious belief?
There is an ancient belief that once Maharishi Bhrigu had come to Vaikunth. As soon as he reached here, Maharishi Bhrigu kicked Lord Vishnu who was lying on the Shesh Naag bed. However, Lord Vishnu immediately caught the leg of Maharishi and asked if his leg was hurt. After this Maharishi Bhrigu told Vishnu that you are the only one who is so calm and tolerant. But Mother Lakshmi did not like this behavior of Bhrigu. She got angry with Lord Vishnu and left Vaikunth.
God took a loan from Kubera
When Lord Vishnu started looking for Goddess Lakshmi, he found out that the Goddess was born on earth as a girl. Vishnu changed his form and went to the girl and proposed marriage. The Goddess accepted it. However, they needed money for the marriage. In such a situation, the Lord took a loan from Kuber by keeping Shiva and Brahma Dev as witnesses and promised that he would repay all Kuber’s debt by the end of Kalyug. He would also repay its interest until the loan was over. After this, Lord Vishnu’s form Venkatesh and Goddess Lakshmi’s form Padmavati got married. This is the reason why people believe that their God is in debt and they donate wealth on a large scale in the temple.
