Collins only had two pieces of coursework to complete before he would have returned home to his family in Swansea, where his dad already had an engineering job set up for him.

Lisa Jane Collins, Collins’ step mother, wrote a statement that was read out in court.

“It has affected our family in a deep, lasting and profound way,” Lisa said.

“From now on, we will always be the couple whose boy got murdered.”

Lisa added that police came to their house early in the morning after the attack, to inform them of their son’s death.

“We had the horror of waking up his siblings to tell them their brother Jamie had been killed even though we had very little information,” Lisa said.

Lisa added that Collins’ father Rob was incapable of working due to stress and his business went under, leaving him in debt.

“Listening to the over performative drama of Zack’s evidence was excruciating as he made himself out to be the victim,” Lisa added.

“I found it physically distressing being at the trial, I have vomited twice after hearing about the brutality.”
