The Punjab Kings team is continuously making many big changes in its coaching staff for the next year’s season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). On one hand, all the franchises are keeping an eye on the retention policy issued by the BCCI regarding the mega player auction, while Punjab Kings had handed over the responsibility to Ricky Ponting as the new head coach of their team for the next season a few days ago. After his arrival, it was decided that many more big changes will be seen in the coaching staff, in which now both Trevor Bayliss and Sanjay Bangar have been relieved.
Punjab Kings team’s performance was very shameful during Bayliss’ tenure
Ricky Ponting, who was playing the role of head coach for the Delhi Capitals team in IPL 2024, has now taken over the responsibility of Punjab Kings. According to the news of ESPN Cricinfo, the decision to remove Bayliss and Sanjay Bangar from their posts was taken after a meeting between the four co-owners of the franchise. Bayliss took over as the head coach of Punjab Kings in the year 2023, during which the team performed very shamefully in 2 IPL seasons during his tenure. During this, while Punjab Kings finished at number 8 in IPL 2023, the team was at number 9 in the last IPL season. At the same time, Sanjay Bangar was made the head of cricket development by the Punjab Kings team, he has also been relieved of his responsibilities by Punjab Kings.
Punjab Kings will also have to search for a new captain
All eyes will be on which players Punjab Kings retain before the mega player auction of IPL 2025, while they will also have to choose a new captain for the next season. In such a situation, this auction is going to be very important for Punjab Kings because the team last managed to reach the playoffs in the 2014 IPL season, but since then they have not been able to finish in the top-4 after the league matches.
