The Indian team recently faced a crushing defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the Test series. India faced a clean sweep at home for the first time in 24 years. Due to this defeat, Team India suffered a huge loss and it also had to lose the second position in the points table of the World Test Championship. Now after this defeat, there is a deep discussion going on between Team India and BCCI.

Actually, BCCI held a meeting in which a detailed review of the 0-3 defeat suffered by India against New Zealand was done in detail. In this, selection of ‘rank turner’ for Mumbai Test, rest of Jasprit Bumrah and coaching style of Gautam Gambhir were discussed. Captain Rohit Sharma, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gambhir along with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Roger Binny were also present in the meeting. Gambhir attended the online meeting.

Brainstorming in BCCI on defeat

A senior BCCI source associated with the matter told PTI on condition of anonymity that it was a 6-hour marathon meeting which was scheduled after such a defeat. The Indian team is going on a tour of Australia and the BCCI would like to ensure that the team gets back on track. Also he would like to know what the ‘think-tank’ (Gambhir-Rohit-Agarkar) are thinking about this.

During the Test series against New Zealand, some decisions were taken on which questions are now being raised. It is believed that BCCI officials were unhappy with the fact that Jasprit Bumrah was rested in the third Test despite losing two consecutive matches. Apart from this, choosing the option of ‘rank turner’ despite India not performing well on these pitches are some of the issues that were discussed.
