MS Dhoni IPL 2025: The IPL 2025 mega auction is likely to be held in November, but before that the IPL Governing Council has announced the retention policy. In this, all the teams can retain maximum 6 players from the existing squad. This can be either through retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option. It has also been decided to implement the Impact Player rule till the year 2027. There is a rule due to which Mahendra Singh Dhoni can play as an uncapped player.
IPL Governing Council press release states that if a capped Indian player has not played in the starting playing eleven of international cricket (Test match, ODI, T20 International) in the last five calendar years preceding the conduct of the relevant season or has If he does not have a central contract with BCCI, he will be uncapped. This rule will be applicable only for Indian players.
Last international match was played against New Zealand
Veteran player Mahendra Singh Dhoni played his last match for India in July 2019 against New Zealand. Since then he has not been included in the playing eleven of Team India. Then on 15 August 2020, he took retirement from international cricket. Since then he is seen playing only in IPL. According to the rules, Dhoni can now play as an uncapped player in IPL 2025. This will enable the franchise to retain them at a lower price.
Chennai Super Kings team won five titles
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is counted among the great captains. He made Chennai Super Kings win many matches with his calm and clever mind. Under the captaincy of Dhoni, CSK team won the IPL title five times (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023). He also played for Rising Pune Supergiants for two seasons in IPL. In IPL, fans especially reach the stadium to see him. He has been playing in IPL since 2008 and has played a total of 264 matches so far, in which he has scored 5243 runs. During this period, his highest score was 84 runs. Dhoni has also scored 24 half-centuries in IPL.
