After the end of the India and Bangladesh Test series, now all eyes are on the Irani Cup being played at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. In the Irani Cup, Rest of India is facing Ranji champion Mumbai. In this match, on the second day, Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane had a chance to score a brilliant century but a ball from Yash Dayal spoiled the whole work. The experienced Indian batsman had to go back to the pavilion even before his century. Ajinkya Rahane was very close to his century and it seemed that he would complete his hundred soon but his luck was bad.
missed a century
Actually, Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane was caught behind the wicket while trying to hit the short ball of Yash Dayal. Earlier the umpire had not given out but Rest of India captain Ruturaj Gaikwad took a review and the replay made it clear that the ball had touched Rahane’s gloves. In this way Rahane’s captaincy innings ended at 97 runs. Ajinkya Rahane along with Sarfaraz made a brilliant partnership of 131 runs for the 5th wicket, due to which Mumbai team’s score could cross 250. Before this, Shreyas Iyer was out after scoring a half-century. Iyer played an innings of 57 runs in 86 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes.
out of the team for 1 year
Let us tell you, Rahane has been out of Team India for more than a year. He played his last Test match in July last year against West Indies at Port of Spain. Since then he has been out of the team due to poor form. Since young players are being given preference in Team India, now their return also seems difficult. In August this year, Rahane participated in the ODI Cup 2024 for Leicestershire in England. During this period, he scored 378 runs in 10 matches at an average of 42. He was the 11th highest run scorer in the tournament. After Irani Cup, Rahane will be seen playing for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy.
