India succeeded in winning the gold medal in both men’s and women’s Chess Olympiad for the first time, which has happened for the first time in the 97-year history. The players of both the men’s and women’s teams of India who participated in this Chess Olympiad returned to the country on Wednesday, 25 September, after which Prime Minister Narendra Modi met everyone at his residence in Delhi and congratulated them for this great achievement. From India’s side, the women’s team in the Chess Olympiad, which began on September 10 in Budapest, Hungary, included D Harika, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, Tania Sachdeva and Vaishali Rameshbabu. The men’s team included R. Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, D. Gukesh, Harikrishna Pentala and Vidit Gujarati. In this tournament, the Indian men’s team gave a one-sided performance in which they secured their first position after the 10th round and won the gold, while the women’s team secured their gold medal in the 11th round.
Chess Olympiad has been taking place since 1927
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) started officially organizing the Chess Olympiad from the year 1927. At the same time, the last time India hosted this tournament was in the year 2022 when it was held in Chennai. India remained undefeated in the open team tournament in this Chess Olympiad in which they won 10 matches and drew one match.
