Mohammed Shami
The return of the player of Team India who was most awaited since last year has finally arrived. Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Mohammed Shami was successful in returning to the cricket field after 360 days. Shami made his comeback for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy Group C match against Madhya Pradesh.
Shami was away from the field since the final of the World Cup 2023 last year due to injury. Shami had an ankle injury for which he had to undergo operation. Since then, he was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy i.e. NCA in Bengaluru. Although a few days ago he informed about his fitness, but then he was not selected in the Indian team for the Australia tour. Now Shami returned to competitive cricket through Ranji Trophy but could not do anything special.
Shami disappointed on the first day
Actually, Mohammed Shami bowled 10 overs on the first day in the match against Madhya Pradesh but could not take a single wicket. The result was that Madhya Pradesh strengthened its position after the first day’s play. After bowling out Bengal’s innings for 228 runs, Madhya Pradesh scored 103 runs for one wicket by the end of the day’s play. Bengal needs to win this match to remain in the race for the quarter-finals.
Shami hit three fours and conceded 16 runs in his opening spell of four overs. His second spell of 6 overs was more impressive. In this he spent 18 runs with one maiden. BCCI and people associated with the Indian team will keep an eye on Shami’s fitness. With a strong performance in the domestic matches, he may return to the team for the subsequent matches of the Border-Gavaskar Test series.
Expecting better performance on the second day
Shami was seen playing with his younger brother Mohammad Kaif for the first time in a Ranji match. Kaif took the only wicket to fall in Madhya Pradesh’s innings. He dismissed opener Himanshu Mantri for 13 runs. Madhya Pradesh’s second opener Shubhranshu Senapati is present at the crease after scoring 44 runs in 103 balls and Indian batsman Rajat Patidar is present at the crease after scoring 41 runs in 55 balls.
