Tension of teams increased before IPL retention, this rule trapped the list

IPL 2025: The most talked about thing in the cricket world right now for the India vs New Zealand Test series is IPL retention. BCCI has already announced that all the 10 IPL teams should submit the list of all their retained players by October 31, so that the further process can be started. Meanwhile, the retention rules that have been set this time have increased the tension of the teams. Even if teams want to, they are thinking ten times before retaining the players of their choice.

A huge amount will have to be spent for the first, second and third retention.

Actually, according to BCCI rules, all teams can retain a maximum of 6 players. The price of the first retention has been kept at Rs 18 crore, the second at Rs 14 crore and the third at Rs 11 crore. After this, if the team wants to do the fourth retention, then it will have to spend Rs 18 crores and after that for the fifth retention, it will have to spend up to Rs 14 crores. Apart from this, the team will also have an RTM i.e. Right to Match card. The thing to keep in mind is that if the team retains an uncapped player, his price will be only Rs 4 crore. Uncapped means a player who has not played an international match yet.

A lot of money will be spent just to retain three players

Now this is where we are stuck. The cost of retention is so high that teams are thinking ten times. Most of the IPL teams want to retain many of their players, but did not think that so much money would have to be spent for this. Although this time BCCI has increased the purse to Rs 120 crore, but even after this the teams are worried and are thinking. There is also tension that if so much money is spent on only three-four players then how will the rest of the team be formed. According to IPL rules, any team can have a minimum of 18 and maximum 25 players.

Discussion continues between team management for the list of retained players

This time, from the discussions that are emerging so far, it seems that many big players will be released from their respective teams. Which has rarely been seen before. With this, when the players go to the auction ground, the excitement will also be at its peak. BCCI may have given relaxation of five to six retentions, but very few teams will go to such a high number. The thinking of the teams would be that it would be better to release the player and buy him again in the auction at a lower price, this could be a profitable deal. However, discussions are still going on between the management of the teams. Soon i.e. by the evening of 31st October, it will be known which team has retained whom and who has been released.
