Brian Lara holds the record for scoring the highest score in Test cricket. In 2004, Lara scored 400 runs in a single innings of a Test against England. This record of Lara has been maintained for the last 20 years in international cricket. But you will be surprised to know that an 18-year-old cricketer has done the great feat of scoring more runs than Lara. This young cricketer belongs to Gujarat, India and his name is Drona Desai. At the young age of 18, Drona Desai played an innings of more than 450 runs. With this, the name of this young cricketer was recorded in the record book. The young cricketer missed scoring 500 runs by just 2 runs. Now this cricketer is being discussed everywhere. Drona did this great feat during the Diwan Ballubhai Cup Under-19 Tournament in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Desai scored a marathon 498 runs for his school St. Xavier’s (Loyola) against JL English School at Shivay Cricket Ground. Desai faced 320 balls. During this, he hit 7 sixes and 86 fours in his innings. With the help of this brilliant innings of Desai, St. Xavier’s registered a huge victory of an innings and 712 runs over JL English School.
Name entered in the record book
With this innings, Dron Desai has joined the club of select cricketers who have scored more than 450 runs. Not only this, he has also made the record of scoring the highest score in inter-school cricket in Gujarat. He has also become the joint 5th highest scorer in India along with Armaan Jaffer. Before Desai, only five batsmen – Mumbai’s Pranav Dhanawade (1009 not out), Prithvi Shaw (546), Dr. Havewala (515), Chamanlal (506 not out) and Armaan Jaffer (498) had achieved the feat of scoring 498 or more runs in an innings.
Happy even after missing 2 runs
After playing the record innings, Dron Desai told the Indian Express that he did not know that he had come so close to 500. There was no scoreboard, and his team also did not tell him anything. He told that he went to play his stroke but got out. However, he is happy to score so many runs.
