The first match of the three-match ODI series was played between India and New Zealand women’s team on 24 October at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After the disappointing performance of the Indian team in the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, Team India has started this series in a much better way, in which they won the first match by 59 runs. In this match, Deepti Sharma’s all-round performance was seen, in which she not only showed her magic with bat and ball, but she also did something in fielding which left everyone surprised.
Deepti took advantage of Sophie Devine’s carelessness
The Indian women’s team batted first in this match and was limited to 227 runs in 44.3 overs. After this, when the New Zealand women’s team came out to chase the target, their start was also not good and they also lost 2 wickets till the score of 40. After this, in the 12th over of the Kiwi team’s innings in which Deepti Sharma was bowling for India, on the last ball of her over, Sophie Devine came out of the crease and tried to play a straight shot, which was stopped by Deepti. Sophie immediately tried to go inside the crease and felt that she had reached inside, while Deepti waited a bit and threw the ball towards wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia. Yastika caught the ball and hit it on the wicket and appealed to Sophie Devine to be run out. When this decision reached the third umpire, it was clearly seen in the replays that when the ball hit the wicket, both of Sophie’s feet were outside the line crease and she had to be run out.
Deepti scored 41 runs with the bat and took one wicket.
If we talk about Deepti Sharma’s performance in this match, while batting first, she scored 41 runs in 51 balls with the help of 2 fours and one six. While in bowling, Deepti gave 35 runs in 9 overs and also took one wicket. Apart from Deepti, Radha Yadav took 3 wickets while Saima Thakor, playing the debut match, took 2 wickets in the bowling for India.
