The performance of the Indian women’s cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2024 being played in UAE has not been anything special so far. In its very first match, the Indian team had to face a crushing defeat at the hands of New Zealand. New Zealand beat India by 58 runs. After this, even though Team India defeated Pakistan in its second match, there was not much improvement in its net run rate. This is the reason why New Zealand’s defeat against Australia has dealt a big blow to Team India’s hopes of reaching the next round.
India will have to win both its remaining matches by a big margin to reach the semi-finals. However, it will not be so easy for the team because out of its remaining 2 matches, one match has to be played against defending champion Australia. Australia is on top in Group A with 4 points. Pakistan is at second place while New Zealand is at third place. India is at fourth position. Sri Lankan team is at the last position.
Big update for India
Meanwhile, a good news for India is that captain Harmanpreet Kaur is completely fit to play in the next match. Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana gave this big information before the next match against Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Mandhana told reporters that Harman is fine and will play tomorrow’s match. However, no information has been revealed yet regarding the fitness of all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar who did not play against Pakistan.
Suspense continues on Pooja
Mandhana said that the medical team is working on Pooja. Information about that will be available only tomorrow. Mandhana has not been able to play as expected in the tournament so far. India now has to play Sri Lanka, who had defeated them in the Asia Cup final. Apart from this, the match with Australia is still pending. Mandhana said that the situation here is very different from what she had thought. The Indian team is trying to strike a balance. The batsmen will have to play smartly.
