The auction for the next season of the Women’s Premier League i.e. WPL 2025 took place today. Just last month, the auction was held for IPL 2025, where bids of Rs 8 to 10 crore and more than Rs 15 crore were received for each player. But if we talk about Women’s Premier League, 19 players were sold for only Rs 9.5 crore. Now all 5 teams are ready for this tournament to be held next year.
Teams had only 19 slots left
There were 124 players with a total of 19 slots at stake in the mini auction. The teams have already retained most of their players, so neither more players were bought nor much money was spent. There were only four players in the entire auction on whom bids of more than Rs 1 crore were made. Apart from uncapped Indians Simran Shaikh, G Kamalini and Prema Rawat, West Indies icon Deandra Dottin received big bids in the auction arena.
Simran Shaikh is the most expensive player bought this year
Simran became the most expensive player of the WPL 2025 auction after being bought by Gujarat Giants for Rs 1.9 crore. He entered at a base price of Rs 10 lakh and saw a bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Giants. Giants also managed to get Dottin, one of the star players of West Indies, in their fold for Rs 1.7 crore.
