It was a matter of good fortune that Chhath Maiya, whom Sharda Sinha worshiped throughout her life, breathed her last in her lap. Not only this, even before his death the only thing on his tongue was the name of Chhath Maiya. She was singing Chhath songs even while breathing her last. Sharda Sinha was honored with Padma Bhushan
The songs sung for Chhath festival included Sharda Sinha among the greatest legends of folk singing. Sharda Sinha was ill for the past several days and her treatment was going on in the hospital. It was only after her husband’s death that her health deteriorated and she said goodbye to the world just a month later. Sharda Sinha breathed her last at the age of 72. Sharda Sinha worked the magic of her voice in more than a hundred songs. Everyone will remember Sharda Sinha for her contribution to music. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.

He died after fighting a long battle with cancer. On September 22, Sharda Sinha’s husband Brijkishore Sinha also died of brain haemorrhage.
