In ‘Pig Butchering’ scams, scammers often ask people to invest money in schemes that are linked to cryptocurrencies. Scammers first make friends online and then gain trust through mutual conversation. Scammers slowly start extorting money from people. They lure them with the promise of huge profits on a false scheme and then ask them to invest money. As soon as people invest money, criminals steal all the money and disappear.
Cheating happens by luring people into greed
Let us tell you that in ‘Pig Butchering’ scam, scammers mostly make people victims of fraud by contacting them through social media, dating apps or text messages. Such scams are mostly run by big gangs. These scams are currently running in many Asian countries like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar. Scammers also lure people to get jobs abroad.
According to a report of 2023, about 3 lakh people have been trapped in the ‘Pig Butchering’ scam gang, while the gangs associated with the scam steal about 43 billion dollars every year. Meta has been investigating such online scams for the last two years. Meta has banned lakhs of accounts related to this scam. If you want to avoid scams and frauds, then you should avoid getting lured by messages or offers from strangers on social media.
