17 soldiers were killed in an attack by Boko Haram militants in the western part of Chad on Saturday. Giving this information, the Army said that 96 militants were also killed in this attack.
Army spokesman General Isaac Achikh said on state television on Sunday night that Boko Haram carried out the attack on Saturday in the Lake Chad area. He did not tell anything about this in detail.
So far this year, the Lake Chad region has been attacked several times by militants of various extremist organizations including Boko Haram and Islamic State in Africa. Chad’s army established peace in 2020 by conducting a successful operation to destroy militant bases, but an atmosphere of violence and fear has once again become prevalent there.
Last month, 40 soldiers were killed in an attack on a military base. President Mahamat Debi Itno then ordered the launch of an operation to oust Boko Haram militants from the Lake Chad region.
