French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed to continue his five-year term. Recently, Prime Minister Michel Barnier had to resign due to a no-confidence motion, but Macron has made it clear that he will complete his tenure. Macron also stressed his responsibility to ensure the continuity of the state, the proper functioning of institutions and the security of the French people. The French President’s statement came when he addressed the nation from the Elysee Palace on Thursday.
Macron said “After all, the term you have democratically entrusted to me is a five-year term and I will follow it fully until it ends. My responsibility includes the continuity of the state, the proper functioning of our institutions, the well-being of our country.” This includes ensuring the freedom and safety of all of you.”
New PM will be elected soon
“I have been doing this with you from the beginning, through social crises, the COVID-19 pandemic, the return of war, inflation and so many trials that we have shared,” Macron said. Macron also vowed to appoint a new prime minister within days. He said, “From today, a new era must begin, where everyone must work for France and where new agreements must be made. Because the world is moving forward, because the challenges are many and because we have to be ambitious for France.” We cannot tolerate division or inaction. That is why I will appoint a Prime Minister in the coming days to form a government of common interest. At least it’s not censored. The Prime Minister will have to lead these consultations and form a strong government at your service.”
What did you say in praise of Barnier?
Macron also spoke about French Prime Minister Barnier and praised him for his “dedication and perseverance.” Macron said, “The Prime Minister handed me his resignation and that of his government, and I have noted it. I want to thank Michel Barnier for the work he has done for the country, his dedication and his perseverance. He and His ministers came forward when many others did not.” Sharing a post on Twitter, Macron wrote, “I want to thank Michel Barnier for the work he has done for our country, his dedication and his perseverance.”
How did the Barnier government fall?
There are 577 seats in the French Parliament and out of these, 331 members voted in favor of removing the Barnier government. Since then there has been political instability in the country. The country’s budget deficit is increasing. Barnier used special powers to pass budget measures without parliamentary approval. After this, leftist and rightist parties started voting on the no-confidence motion against his government and he had to resign. Barnier’s government became the first in more than six decades to be brought down by a vote of no-confidence. At the age of 73, Barnier served as Prime Minister for only 91 days.
