During the interview, Nawaz Sharif also discussed the economic situation of Pakistan. He said that his country is asking for money from the whole world, while India is going to the moon. He has a treasure of 600 billion dollars. He is organizing the G-20 summit. We are begging for 1-1 billion dollars in front of Arab countries including China.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has reached Islamabad, Pakistan for the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had clearly refused to attend this meeting. Now the pain of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan regarding this is clearly visible. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has expressed his desire to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the future. He advocated better relations with the neighboring country. Nawaz said in an exclusive interview with Indian journalist Barkha Dutt that I have always been a supporter of good relations with India. He expressed hope that there is an opportunity to revive the relationship. Nawaz said it would have been great if Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi had also attended the SCO summit. I hope that in the near future he and we will get an opportunity to sit together.

Relations between India and Pakistan came under severe strain after Indian warplanes attacked the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan in February 2019 in response to the Pulwama terror attack. Relations deteriorated further after India announced on August 5, 2019, the withdrawal of Jammu and Kashmir’s special powers and bifurcation of the state into two union territories. Pakistan downgraded diplomatic ties with India after New Delhi abrogated Article 370.

However, Nawaz Sharif has repeatedly advocated positive relations with India. Last year he had stressed the need to improve relations with neighbours, including India and Afghanistan. He recalled that two Indian Prime Ministers, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi, had visited Pakistan. He congratulated Modi on winning for a record third time and said it shows the confidence people have in their relationship.
