In response to a question asked at a press conference here regarding the progress made in withdrawing the troops, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that an agreement has been reached between China and India on border-related issues. “At this moment, Chinese and Indian troops are systematically implementing the agreements,” he said, declining to give any details.
Following the important agreement between India and China, both the countries started withdrawing troops from the confrontation areas in Demchok and Depsang in eastern Ladakh on October 2. There was tension in the relations between the two countries after the fierce clash in Galwan Valley in June 2020.
This was the deadliest military confrontation between the two sides in the last few decades. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said in New Delhi on October 21 that the agreements were finalized after talks over the past several weeks and would resolve issues that arose in 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had on October 23 supported the agreement on patrolling and disengagement of troops along the LAC in eastern Ladakh during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.
