ISKCON urged the Bangladesh government to promote “peaceful co-existence” for Hindus in the country and strongly condemned the recent arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Das was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday.

Dhaka. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) urged the Bangladesh government to promote “peaceful co-existence” for Hindus in the country and strongly condemned the recent arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Is. Das was arrested on Monday from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when he was about to fly to Chittagong to attend a rally. On Tuesday, the court had refused to grant him bail.

A case was registered against Das and 18 others on October 30 at Kotwali police station in Chittagong on a complaint by a leader of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He was accused of insulting the national flag of Bangladesh at Laldighi Maidan in the city during a rally of the Hindu community on October 25.

ISKCON-Bangladesh General Secretary Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari said, “We express our grave concern and strongly condemn the recent arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das… We condemn the violence against Sanatanis in various areas of Bangladesh. And we also condemn the attacks.” “We urge government officials to promote peaceful co-existence for Sanatanis,” he said. The statement called Bangladesh its “birthplace and ancestral home.” Stating that the interim government of Bangladesh led by Mohammad Yunus was urged to ensure justice for all and allow every citizen to freely practice his religion according to his beliefs.
