Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit India. The dates for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India are expected to be announced early next year, the Kremlin announced. According to the Russian Embassy in India, the statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov was made during a briefing. Ushanov, Moscow’s former ambassador to the United States, said there is an agreement between our (Russian and Indian) leaders to meet once a year. This time it’s our turn. We have received PM Modi’s invitation and we will definitely consider it positively. He said that we will find out the tentative dates early next year.

This was his first bilateral visit after winning for the third consecutive time in June. The Prime Minister was awarded Russia’s highest civilian award, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. India has repeatedly abstained from voting against Russia on Ukraine-related resolutions at the United Nations. It has also been criticized by the West for buying cheap oil from Russia despite Moscow’s “aggression” in the war in Ukraine.
