Islamabad: Another case of polio has been reported in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. After the new case, the total number of cases of this disease has increased to 22. This is no less than a big shock for the Pakistan government. Officials said that the latest polio victim is a resident of Pishin in Balochistan, and his age is two and a half years. Officials said that 15 cases of polio have been reported from Balochistan alone. An official said, “Four cases have been reported in Sindh while one case each has been reported in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Islamabad.”
The role of parents is important
Expressing deep concern over the rising number of polio cases in Pakistan, Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq, who is in charge of the polio eradication programme, stressed that parents play a vital role in safeguarding the health of their children. “Each case represents a child whose life is made miserable and unnecessarily affected by polio. The only solution is timely vaccination. Each new case reminds us that we have failed our children and have failed them too. In this fight against polio, I request all parents to take responsibility and ensure that their children get polio vaccine on time,” she said.

What is the government’s plan
The government statement said that two massive door-to-door vaccination campaigns are planned later this year to curb the spread of the virus and reduce the vaccination gap. Stressing the need to expand the coverage of the polio, National Coordinator for Polio Emergency Operation Centre Mohammad Anwarul Haque said, “Every new case reminds us of the increasing gap between vaccinations.” “When a child is not vaccinated, the virus wins. Let us work together for the safety of our children and most importantly, to stop the virus,” the Dawn newspaper quoted Haque as saying. (Language)
