The Sri Lanka Navy said in a press release that the fishermen were arrested and their boat was also seized off the Point Pedro coast in the northern province of Jaffna. The 12 captured fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai port and will be handed over to the Malady Fisheries Inspectorate for further action, it said.

Sri Lanka’s Fisheries Ministry said that a 12-member Indian team will arrive here on Tuesday to discuss the recurring problem (fishing by fishermen) between the two neighbours. Fishermen from both countries are often arrested for unknowingly entering each other’s territorial waters.
