Indian-American Suhas Subramaniam, who won from Virginia, is a lawyer by profession. Subramaniam has become the first person from the community to be elected from this state and the entire east coast. He is currently a Virginia state senator.
Subramanian, who reached the US House of Representatives from Virginia, won this election by defeating Mike Clancy of the Republican Party. After 63 percent counting of votes, he has 132,712 votes, while his rival has 128,606 votes.
