New Delhi: The troubles of Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh have increased. Sulakshana Sawant, wife of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, has filed a ₹100 crore defamation suit against Sanjay Singh. Sanjay Singh had reportedly named Sulakshana Sawant in the “cash-for-jobs scam” in Goa during a press conference earlier this month. Sulakshana Sawant filed a defamation case against Sanjay Singh in the Civil Judge Senior Division Court in Bicholim, Goa.

Accusations made without any credible evidence

Sanjay Singh linked Sulakshana Sawant to the “cash-for-jobs scam” in Goa, according to an official press note, claiming that she was involved in corrupt practices. “These statements were broadcast live on multiple national and regional news channels and widely shared on social media platforms such as YouTube, where they received significant views,” the charges read. The defamation suit claims that these false allegations were made without any credible evidence, which has damaged the integrity and public image of Sulakshana Sawant. The statements made by Sanjay Singh were not only damaging, but were also widely circulated and shared, leading to false allegations.

“This defamation took place during a press conference, in which Sanjay Singh made direct allegations against the integrity of Sulakshana Sawant and her involvement in the scam, thereby damaging his reputation,” the press note said. Sulakshana Sawant has filed a defamation suit of Rs 100 crore. Taking cognizance of this, the judge of civil cases held a hearing and issued notice to Sanjay Singh, whose reply has to be given on January 10, 2025.

Appeal to stop giving public statements

Sulakshana Sawant, through her lawyers, requested the court to direct Singh to publish an apology, clarifying that the said defamatory videos/articles and interviews are false, not based on facts and that he tenders an unconditional apology. Are. The complainant also urged the court to restrain Singh from making any public statement defaming him on social media or other platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Many candidates in Goa had filed complaints that they were forced to pay lakhs of rupees to some people who had promised them jobs in the Goa government. The Chief Minister had said that the state police was investigating the alleged cash-for-jobs scam in a transparent manner.
