Air quality remained in ‘very poor’ category in some parts of Delhi. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at more than 300 at 7 am. The AQI in Anand Vihar reached 317 at 7:00 am, while the AQI in Aya Nagar was recorded at 312, both of which fall in the ‘very poor’ category. AQI in Jahangirpuri also remained 308. In contrast, Chandni Chowk had better air quality, recording 191, which is considered ‘moderate’.
Meanwhile, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Monday said that 108 incidents of stubble burning were recorded in Punjab. They protested against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at Kapurthala House over air pollution concerns. A delegation of leaders sought to meet the Punjab Chief Minister to submit a memorandum, but were unable to meet him. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that 108 cases of stubble burning were reported in Punjab alone on October 26, yet Delhi government ministers often blame neighboring states Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Sachdeva said, “The pollution situation is worsening in Delhi, which is now considered the most polluted capital of the world. After learning that the Punjab Chief Minister is present here today, we requested a meeting. AAP leadership The Punjab government is continuously trying to save 108 incidents of stubble burning in Punjab, but we have data which shows that in Haryana and UP. The incidents of stubble burning are 16 and 11 respectively. If they are still not controlling stubble burning, it is political. Today many people are suffering from health problems related to it.”
The Delhi BJP president said that if the AAP governments in Punjab and Delhi were really serious about air pollution, they would have accepted the memorandum, which mentions reduction in stubble burning in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said that before coming to power in Punjab, AAP had made big promises, including vowing to tackle the problem of stubble burning, which has increased air pollution in Delhi. He said that now they are not even ready for discussion.
