Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the unity race is not only a pledge for the unity of India, but it has also become a pledge for ‘developed India’. Speaking at the ‘Ekta Run’ event organized in the national capital on the occasion of National Unity Day, the Union Home Minister on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to organize the Unity Run in the memory of the great Sardar Patel.
Amit Shah said, “This time the festival of Diwali is on 31st October. Therefore, instead of 31st October, it has been decided to organize Unity Run on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras on 29th October. On 31st October 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the country It was decided to organize Unity Run in the memory of great Sardar Patel for unity and integrity. Today when we all have gathered here for Unity Run, this Unity Run is not just a pledge of unity of India, now The race for unity has also become the resolve of a developed India.”
He further said that it is unfortunate that for years an attempt was made to forget Sardar Patel. He said, “For years he was deprived of the honor of Bharat Ratna. But the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked to keep the memory of Sardar Patel alive by installing the world’s tallest statue in Kevadiya, Gujarat.” Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya were also present during this program.
‘Run for Unity’, which is being organized on National Unity Day on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is being organized this time on 29 October. This time ‘Run for Unity’ is being organized today on the occasion of Diwali.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had announced this in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program and had said that the festival of Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary and Diwali are falling simultaneously on October 31 this year. He said that every year on 31st October, on the occasion of ‘National Unity Day’, we organize ‘Run for Unity’.
