In his X post, Abdullah wrote that I have spoken to the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police that there should not be any “green corridor” or traffic stop when I go anywhere by road.

Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on October 16 in Srinagar. The 54-year-old vice-president of the National Conference (NC) has become the first chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir after it became a union territory in 2019. In his first decision after becoming the chief minister, Abdullah said he has told the Union Territory’s top police officer that there is no need for ‘green corridors’ or ‘traffic stoppages’ for them while traveling on the road.

In his X post, Abdullah wrote that I have spoken to the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police that there should not be any “green corridor” or traffic stop when I go anywhere by road. I have instructed them to minimize public inconvenience and minimize the use of sirens. Along with this, he said that any kind of stick waving or use of aggressive gestures should be completely avoided. Not only this, Omar Abdullah has also made a special appeal to his ministers.

Abdullah further wrote that I am asking my cabinet colleagues to follow the same example. Our conduct in everything should be favorable to the people. We are here to serve people, not to inconvenience them. The UT has got its first elected government in six years. Jammu and Kashmir has been under central rule since June 2018, after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew its support from the coalition government with Mehbooba’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
