LIC Commissioner A Arun visited Kalaignar Centenary Hospital where the incident took place. Arun told reporters that we have come to review the security arrangements. We will give instructions and discuss (with officials) what measures will be taken to ensure their (doctors’) safety. Chennai Police is reviewing the security arrangements at the hospital where a doctor was stabbed by the son of a cancer patient. A senior police officer said they will discuss what measures need to be taken to protect the doctors. Police officials said that the accused was coming to the hospital for the treatment of his mother. He is not a new person. His mother has been here for six months for treatment. A police officer said he may have been using drugs, we don’t know. Officials said the patient had undergone multiple chemo procedures and the accused was informed about his mother’s condition. He said the accused named Vigneswaran attacked Dr Balaji, who is an oncologist. Police officials said the mother of the accused told them that she had no knowledge about any plan by her son to attack the doctor.

Tamil Nadu Resident Doctors Association (TNRDA) condemned the attack on the doctor. The TNRDA said in a statement that the incident highlights the serious safety risks faced by health professionals across Tamil Nadu. We demand immediate government action to protect the lives of doctors and medical staff.
